Don’t Ditch Carbon Prematurely

From the FT:

“Amin Nasser, the chief executive of Saudi Aramco, the world’s largest oil producer, has called on global leaders to continue investing in fossil fuels in the years ahead, or run the risk of spiraling inflation and social unrest that could force them to jettison emissions targets altogether . . . .”

And:

“‘I understand that publicly admitting that oil and gas will play an essential and significant role during the transition and beyond will be hard for some,’ Nasser told delegates at the WPC, one of the biggest gatherings of oil and gas executives in the world.

“‘But admitting this reality will be far easier than dealing with energy insecurity, rampant inflation and social unrest as the prices become intolerably high and seeing net zero commitments by countries start to unravel.'”

HOW COME I THINK THAT DOCTRINAIRE COMPULSIVE’S IN THE CLIMATE CHANGE MOVEMENT WILL CANCEL THIS MAN AND BRAND HIM AN ENEMY OF HUMANITY?

Migration Is a Right?

NO, IT ISNT.

Not in nation-state law, international law or any other law.

And the only natural rights that exist are THOSE YOU CAN DEFEND. JUNGLE-FREE is NOT a NATURAL STATE.

All of Western Europe is now resisting culture-destroying, “reverse-colonization” migration. And, most prominently, that includes the UK, France, Spain, Italy, Greece and Poland. The others will follow or are already there.

In too many cases, assimilation simply DOESN’T HAPPEN.

Ask China and Japan if they want hordes of unsolicited permanent visitors?

Alumni Balking at Continuing Donations

So glad to see what I hope turns out to be the greatest COUNTERATTACK against SUPPRESSING FREE SPEECH since the D-Day Landings.  And that’s NOT hyperbole.

While I’m by no means a RIGHTIST, I vigorously oppose CRIMINALIZING THE RIGHT.

As the linked piece highlights, groups at Cornell, Davidson and Washington and Lee are encouraging alumni to SUSPEND CONTRIBUTIONS until DIFFERING VIEWPOINTS on campus STOP BEING PUNISHED.

Here’s the piece:

Alumni Are Now Withholding Donations Over Too Much Censorship on Campus

I’d been wondering for months why no one had thought of doing this.  I’m encouraged to see it now happening.

Economic Collapse, Anyone?

For those in search of a daily roundup of what’s TRULY SALIENT in financial news, check out MICHAEL EVERY, Rabobank’s principal economic analyst.  Man, does he tell it.

Today, he referred to the IMF’s warning of economic collapse (The IMF are warning of “economic collapse”) while offering up some potential triggers:

  • Supply chain issues
  • The need to raise rates
  • The threat of an inflationary wage-price spiral
  • Oil prices
  • China’s property market
  • China-US tech/trade conflicts
  • The battle over Chinese offshore listings
  • The collapse of the Turkish lira
  • Russian troops on Ukraine’s borders
  • Pessimism regarding reviving the 2015 Iran nuclear deal
  • The rise of the hard-right in France
  • “Lunatic” volatility in financial markets

Oh, and he forgot to mention COVID and Taiwan.

This may be ADVENT, but WHO KNOWS WHAT’S NEXT?
