Can We Afford War with China?

Pat Buchanan doesn’t think so.  He also doesn’t think war is in China’s interest either.

US and China: Collision or Cooperation?

This is a well-conceived, well-expressed piece.  Jumping straight to his concluding comments:

“If there is a great war between China and the United States, it will likely be because of some damn fool thing in the Taiwan Strait.

“Avoiding that war should be the first order of business of both the Communist Party of China and the democratic capitalists of America.”

So yes, it’s time for a multipolar world with the US-Anglosphere (including perhaps India), Continental Europe, Russia/Eurasia and China/East and South Asia as the key strategic players. Which means it’s also HIGH TIME for the US to abandon its Russia/China containment policy.

Remember PEACFUL CO-EXISTENCE?  It’s time to DUST IT OFF.

As for the US leaving the Western Pacific, ROME LEFT ROME, surviving in Constantinople for another THOUSAND YEARS.

There’s no sense risking annihilation trying to control what we can’t.

‘English Isn’t White’ . . .

. . . and black writers, such as James Baldwin and Toni Morrison have never doubted it.  Nor does Columbia LINGUISTICS PROFESSOR, John McWhorter, doubt it now.  Yet, legions of other blacks not members of the BLACK INTELLIGENTSIA have refused to learn or speak it properly.  Why?  Would it signify submission to THE MAN?

Apparently.

But not to worry!

Because here comes Arizona State University professor, Asao B. Inoue, who’s declared that proper English grammar is ITSELF RACIST and students should not be graded on it.  Gee, how clever!  Sounds like his version of NO CORRECT ANSWERS IN MATH.

Inoue “argues” that students shouldn’t be graded on how well they’ve written a paper, but on HOW HARD THEY TRIED.  Not to get lost in the weeds here, but how exactly can you determine how hard a student has TRIED?  Provide them all with MINDERS?

Inoue calls his crusade HOWL, “Habits of White Language.”

Has the man LOST HIS MIND?  Or is he just THAT BITTER over being himself a minority in a culturally ANGLO world?  MY WORLD, by the way.

What if we applied Professor Inoue’s achievement “criterion” to medicine, law, policing, sports or ANYTHING?  Would we still have a functioning society?  OF COURSE NOT.

English is one of the world’s leading languages and SPOKEN PROPERLY in NUMEROUS COUNTRIES.  Does that make foreign speakers of proper English racist as well?

And as the lingua franca of US academe, government, business and the professions, there’s no way to advance without KNOWING IT COLD.  It’s like oxygen.

Here’s Mike Shedlock’s take:

Grading Is Racist “White Language Supremacy” Says Arizona State Professor

And here’s how he ends it:

“English isn’t white.

“By associating language with skin colors, Inoue promotes racism.

“English isn’t white anymore than Chinese is yellow. Anyone suggesting the latter would hear instantaneous howls.

“Yet, somehow it’s 100% acceptable for academic racists to promote English as Racist White Language Supremacy.

“I suggest teaching good English, good Chinese, and good Japanese, etc.

“Instead, Inoue adopts racist “HOWLs” with an insane solution that openly encourages the right to bad grammar.

“Inoue should be fired. Instead he tours the country making an English jackass out of himself with alleged solutions that are not only fatally flawed but obviously racist.”

MY QUESTION?

HOW MANY CLOWNS LIKE THIS ARE OUT THERE?  THE LEVEL OF NONSENSE IS ASTONISHING.

1973 Cavett/Brando Interview

Godfather or Godfather of Woke?

Would Brando today be a Leftist ideologue touting spurious critical theory and clamoring for equity over merit?

Hard to say.

As liberal as he was, he was also a CANTANKEROUS contrarian and in my opinion deeply depressed and, ultimately, extremely self-indulgent.

All that aside, this to me felt like the MOTHER OF ALL TIME-CAPSULE INTERVIEWS despite the CONTINUING RELEVANCE — 50 years later — of all of the issues discussed.

And it was BRUTALLY HONEST TV.

And say what you will about Dick Cavett, he was nothing less than the Bill Maher of his day and in fact paved the way for him.

A lot here to like.

The Climate Will Change Regardless

Check it out:

“Despite many national governments apparently recognising the urgency of the climate situation at the COP26 summit, Statista’s Martin Armstrong points out that new estimates from Climate Action Tracker suggest that the 2030 pledges made will still result in a global mean temperature increase of 2.4°C by 2100 – which is reportedly ‘dangerously higher’ than the 1.5°C target formalized by the Paris Agreement.”

And this:

Even in the best-case scenario, a temperature of 1.8°C is forecast (with lower and upper estimates of 1.5 and 2.4, respectively). As detailed in the report:

Policy implementation on the ground is advancing at a snail’s pace. Under current policies, we estimate end-of-century warming to be 2.7°C. While this temperature estimate has fallen since our September 2020 assessment, major new policy developments are not the driving factor. We need to see a profound effort in in all sectors, in this decade, to decarbonise the world to be in line with 1.5°C”.

TUDOR PLACE: What activists seek is UTOPIAN. To achieve it would require reducing economies to the point of killing off millions; though some might suggest this is Davos’s aim. Regardless, the world can’t DE-ECONOMIZE. Even in its efforts to DE-CARBONIZE.

This sweeping program so fervently preached — correct, it’s religion — will NEVER take shape. Humans, instead, will muddle through, adapting when possible — however they can — in an effort to minimize suffering.

Skunk Baxter

Yes, THAT Skunk Baxter.  Former lead guitarist for Steely Dan and the Doobie Brothers.

Look how he turned out:

A couple of comments on this terrific video.

  • I just loved Baxter talking — as though he were John Robb — about the OODA Loop: observe, orient, decide, act.  His riffs on improvisation and Japanese work circles were also illuminating.  But they’re merely table setters.
  • The core of this video — WHICH RUNS FROM 36:44 to 44:45 — features Baxter’s discourse on music, vibrations and frequency where he starts with jazz, proceeding to how music makes us feel good; to his working with Charles Townes who invented the laser; to Townes’ book on the CONNECTION BETWEEN THEORETICAL PHYSCIS AND GOD; to a talk Townes gave on this that CHANGED BAXTER’S LIFE; to Townes’ idea that the human spirit HAS A SET OF COHERENT OSCILLATIONS; to the glue that holds together EVERYTHING in the universe — including space and subatomic particles — viz. VIBRATIONS AND FREQUENCY; to Baxter’s realization that MUSIC IS ALSO A SET OF COHERENT OSCILLATIONS; to the connection between a) music touching us so deeply and b) the molecular structure of our bodies GLUED TOGETHER BY DIFFERENT FREQUENCIES; to human beings as “VERY SOPHISTICATED SENSOR PACKAGES;” to the linear vibration path of “no vibrations” to pure energy; TO THE TRANSITION DOWN THE LINEAR VIBRATION PATH TO HEAT; to the heat vibrations getting so fast that THEY THEN PRODUCE COLOR; to the movement higher and higher in the frequency spectrum into gigahertz, radars and radio waves; back to Charlie Townes’ assertion that WE ARE ALL COHERENT VIBRATIONS ON A LINEAR SCALE FROM ZERO TO PURE ENERGY; TO WHY MUSIC MOVES US BECAUSE THE MOLECULES, ATOMS AND SUBATOMIC PARTICLES THAT MAKE UP OUR BODIES ARE HELD TOGETHER BY VIBRATIONS.

PLEASE WATCH THE ENTIRE VIDEO.  IT’S A TOUR DE FORCE SHOWCASE OF RENAISSANCE TALENT THAT OTHERS MOST SURELY POSSESS; THOUGH EQUALING BAXTER’S UNLIKELY TRANSITION IS SOMETHING THAT FEW WILL ACHIEVE.
